18th Sep 2012New YorkDepart 16:00

Even if you’ve never been before, you’ll feel like you know it from countless movies and TV programmes. The Manhattan buzz is like nowhere else. Whether you’re shopping on Fifth Avenue, strolling up Broadway, checking out the sensational museums and galleries or taking it all in from high atop the Empire State Building, you’ll agree… it’s a wonderful town.

20th Sep 2012Halifax, Nova Scotia, CanadaArrive 07:00 - Depart 17:00

Halifax was founded in 1749 and there’s history and heritage around every corner. Check out the city sights in a horse-drawn carriage or on the top deck of a British bus; immerse yourself in maritime history, including the city’s Titanic connection; or head out to scenic Peggy’s Cove with its lighthouse and brightly painted houses for a wonderful lobster lunch.

22nd Sep 2012Quebec City, QuebecArrive 13:00

Sailing along the St. Lawrence River into Quebec City, you may just wonder whether you’re in North America or Europe, for this delightful city has an unmistakably French style and joie de vivre. Take a stroll around the historic Upper Town with its narrow streets and cobbled squares, stop for coffee and croissants and take in the stunning view over the city and river.

25th Sep 2012Corner Brook, NewfoundlandArrive 08:00 - Depart 17:00

The people of Newfoundland, an island separated from the rest of Canada, have a unique culture and language that sets them apart as well. Possibly the sunniest city in the often-foggy province, Corner Brook is perched at the mouth of the salmon-filled Humber River. Find a chatty guide and you may hear tales about the buried treasure of Shellbird Island, guarded by the "Old Man in the Mountain."
26th Sep 2012Sydney, Nova ScotiaArrive 07:00 - Depart 15:00

Sydney stands on Cape Breton Island, a place of natural, rugged beauty, which has echoes of the Scottish Highlands that gave the province its name. The tree-lined streets of the Old Town are dotted with buildings from the 18th and 19th-centuries, while inland the landscape of mountains, valleys, lakes and rivers are just waiting to be explored.

Lectures & Workshops

Modern day medical challenges for podiatrists – what are the challenges we are facing now and in the next decade  - increasing levels of obesity, alcohol abuse, prevalence of Type 2 diabetes and kidney-related disease, increasing rates of ischemic  heart disease. We’ll look at the effects these factors have on the body, exactly why they happen, why they are on the increase, and the problems that they cause.

Dispelling the myths of pharmacology – pharmacokinetics and dynamics - how drugs do what they do, and why things go wrong. We’ll also look at some clinical pharmacology of commonly-encountered drugs.

Clinical neurology – anatomy, nerve function, pathologies, clinical presentations

High risk patients – what makes a patient ‘high risk’, how do we recognise it, what do we do about it ?

Professional identity – who do we think we are ? Being part of a multi-disciplinary team (even in private practice)

Doing a good job – how do we know we are effective clinicians ? What do we do if we’re not? Does CPD really make a difference ?
